China gave Sri Lanka this conference hall, and it opened in 1973. It is named after a prime minister who held office from 1956 to 1959. The complex on Bauddhaloka Mawatha has hosted a Non-Aligned Movement summit and a Commonwealth heads of government meeting, and the city's book fair runs here. The grounds outside the halls take open-air events. One of them, Kamatha, is laid out as a paddy field and is used for folk performances and green weddings.
